Governor Announces New TDHCA, TSAHC Board Members

This month Gov. Rick Perry has made two new housing related appointments.

He appointed J.Paul Oxer of Sugar Land to the board of the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, and Jerry Romero of El Paso to the board of the Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation.

From the Gov’s press release regarding Mr. Oxer’s appointment:

“Oxer is managing director of McDaniell, Hunter and Prince Inc. He is a member of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Academy of Environmental Engineers, and National Society of Professional Engineers. He is also an external advisory board member of the Georgia Institute of Technology School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and past chair and past member of the University of Louisville J.B. Speed School of Engineering Industrial Board of Advisors. Oxer received a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Institute of Technology.”

Google indicates McDaniell, Hunter & Prince, Inc. provides “Transaction support and project development for investment.”  Their website is still under development.

Georgia Tech also put out a press release regarding this appointment, stating:

“Oxer earned his BSCE from Georgia Tech in 1973 and currently serves as managing director of McDaniell, Hunter and Prince Inc. In this role, he is responsible for managing transactions and project development for investment in infrastructure including water and wastewater utilities, renewable energy (wind, geothermal, solar), energy efficiency and demand side management. Prior to this position, Oxer was a senior project director at PBS&J in Atlanta and has worked in a variety of senior management positions with Enron Energy Services, Azurix Corporation, and Enron Energy & Construction Co.; and as an independent international project developer.”

From the Gov’s press release regarding Mr. Romero’s appointment:

“Romero is vice president of community development for Wells Fargo Bank N.A. He is a member of the El Paso Chapter of the American Institute of Banking, National Association of Securities Dealers, and Texas Bankers Association. He is a board member and treasurer of the El Paso Housing Finance Corporation, vice chair of the Texas Community Capitol Board, and a board member of the Texas Association of Local Housing Finance Agencies. He is chairman of the El Paso Collaborative for Community and Economic Development, and Texas Foundations Fund Advisory Board, past chairman of the Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation, and past board member of the Rural Development Finance Committee. He is also a past board member and treasurer of ACCION, Texas and a member of the Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce. Romero attended the University of Texas at El Paso and is a graduate of the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco National Community Development Lending School. He is appointed for a term to expire Feb. 1, 2015.”

Mr. Romero currently serves on the TSAHC “Foundations Fund Advisory Council,” and as noted in the press release above, has previously served as chairman of TSAHC.

Both of these appointments are subject to confirmation by the Texas Senate.
