I am being denied assistance by the homeowners assistance program because they say that my house sustained too much damage. However, a contractor they are using said that he was not afraid of my house even knowing that he would have just $40,000 to bring my home up to their 100% of code.

I have to appeal, but feel strongly that it just a way to put me off until the funding is gone which will leave me with no help. I have been 4 1/2 years without a bathroom and kitchen and I am handicapped existing on SSI and trying to buy materials to make repairs with only my teen to help and he had never driven a nail before he started trying to do it alone a few weeks ago.

I will not take the new box that they call a home. One contractor has been fired for shoddy work and the contractor from Georgia I spoke to was here because another screwed up on 122 houses that they now have to fix. I at least know my house will stand through a hurricane not be blown off the slab as the newer ones are doing.

I need help but do not know where to turn and from what I was told by a worker who was not supposed to confirm my suspicions, many others have heard the same when their homes were in far better shape than mine. People are giving up and dropping out because they do not trust the crap that the contractors tell us are safe and want to keep their homes.

Reps of my contractor have outright lied to me twice. This included trying to tell me that an enlarged bathroom and tile were not available to me despite my disability. I do not trust a liar to be concerned for my safety.

Can you help- me in anyway?
